Holding the five pound baby

Happily received from the

Proud parent,

I search for resemblances

‘Your mother had similar wide eyes’

We could only see her large eyes

And her sharp nose, hallmark of her presence

Pulling ourselves from memories

I relook at the child

Crying at the change of guard,

‘After creating a sharp nose

Small dip with thumb

Just to make it unique’

Does he sleep well?

‘If he was born in the night

He will allow you to sleep

In the day’

Responding to people around

Child announces arrival

Bringing back memories

Lost in time

Discovering new vocabulary

New rhymes and tricks

Everyone a poet and magician

Reliving the child within
